About This Portal

prisonersvn.com is a fan-built browser portal for Prisoners, a free psychological horror visual novel by the indie developer JJ (J3NNN). The portal exists to make one thing easy: play Prisoners in your browser, without downloading anything.

What This Site Is

  • A static website that embeds the playable Ren’Py web build of Prisoners, hosted at s.prisonersvn.com.
  • A single-page home with story summary, character profiles, content warnings, FAQ, player reviews, and an endings tracker.
  • A convenience site. The game itself is loaded from the developer’s own mirror — this portal does not host, modify, or redistribute the game itself.

What This Site Is Not

  • Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by JJ (J3NNN) or the original Prisoners project.
  • Not the official Prisoners website. The official source for the game is the developer’s itch.io page at j3nnn.itch.io/prisoners.
  • Not a download mirror. The portal does not host, modify, or redistribute the game itself.
  • Not commercial. The site itself is free, and the game is free on the developer’s page.
  • Not collecting personal data. We do not run first-party analytics, we do not set first-party tracking cookies, and we do not log your playthrough.

Why This Site Exists

Many players want to try a visual novel before they commit to a 200–800 MB download. Prisoners is built in Ren’Py, which means the developer can ship a web build alongside the desktop build, and any of those web builds can be embedded in a static page. This portal does that, with proper credits, content warnings, and a clean AdSense-friendly layout, so the developer’s work is easier to find for players who would otherwise never click through.

How It Works

  1. You press the Play button at the top of the home page.
  2. The browser loads the Ren’Py web build from the developer’s mirror at s.prisonersvn.com inside an iframe on the page.
  3. You play the game. Your playthrough state, save files, and ending choices stay in your browser — the portal never sees them.
  4. When you are done, the portal’s endings tracker (stored in localStorage on your device) is the only thing that remembers which ending you reached.

Content Policy

Prisoners deals with mature themes — flashing lights, claustrophobia, extreme psychological distress, implied character death, and the threat of execution. The portal surfaces these in a clear content warning block at the top of the main info card, before the iframe, so players can make an informed decision before pressing play. If you find the content distressing, please take breaks and stop if you need to.
