Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 11, 2026
This privacy policy describes what the Prisoners browser portal (prisonersvn.com) does and does not collect when you visit it. The short version: the portal does not collect first-party analytics, does not set first-party tracking cookies, and does not log your playthrough. There is more to say about what runs on the page, so the full version is below.
1. Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not run any first-party analytics, beacons, or session recorders.
- We do not set any first-party cookies.
- We do not log your IP address, your playthrough state, or your ending choices on any server.
- We do not sell, rent, or share anything about you — because we do not have anything about you.
- We do not require an account, an email address, or any other personal identifier to use this site.
2. Data Stored Locally In Your Browser
The only persistent data this site stores is your endings tracker progress, kept in localStorage on your own device under the key prisonersvn_endings_v1. It is a small JSON object that records which endings you have marked as unlocked. It is never sent to any server. You can clear it at any time by clicking Reset Progress in the Endings Tracker, or by clearing your browser’s site data for prisonersvn.com.
The site also stores a small cookie-consent flag under the prisonersvn_cookie_consent_v1 key, recording that you dismissed the cookie banner. It is never sent to any server.
3. Third-Party Requests The Page Makes
The page itself is static and served from Cloudflare Pages, but it loads a small number of third-party resources when you visit. Here is what is loaded, by whom, and why:
- Google Fonts CSS and font files (
fonts.googleapis.com,fonts.gstatic.com) — used to display the serif body and display fonts. Google may log the request against your IP; see Google’s privacy policy. - Plausible Analytics (
stats.1back.link) — a privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics counter that measures anonymous page views. Plausible does not set cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track users across sites. See Plausible’s data policy. - Adsterra native banner (served from
beavercolourfuldelinquent.com) — a single sponsored slot between the related-games grid and the endings tracker. The script is loaded withdeferso it never blocks the page. Adsterra may set their own cookies or use their own identifiers; see Adsterra’s privacy policy for details. (When Google AdSense is added in the future, that script and its cookies will also be listed here.) - The Ren’Py web build (
s.prisonersvn.com) — the playable game itself, loaded into an embedded iframe only after you press Play. Whatever data that endpoint collects is governed by the operator ofs.prisonersvn.com, not by this portal.
4. Cookies Set On Your Device
This portal does not set any first-party cookies. The only cookies that may end up in your browser are set by the third parties listed in section 3 — in particular Adsterra, and the iframe game host when you press Play. Clearing your browser’s cookies for this domain is enough to remove the portal’s footprint; clearing them for the third-party domains is a separate step handled by your browser settings.
5. Advertising Disclosure
This site displays advertising served by third-party ad networks. Ads may be personalized or non-personalized depending on your location, your browser, and the network’s own policies. EU/EEA/UK users are shown a cookie consent banner on first visit; the banner is the trigger for any consent signal we send. US users may opt out of personalized advertising via the DAA opt-out or the NAI opt-out. We do not collect or store any data that links your visits to your identity.
The exact list of ad networks used on this site is in the file /ads.txt. Advertisers are required to identify themselves in that file per the IAB Tech Lab specification.
6. Children
Prisoners is a mature psychological horror visual novel with content including flashing lights, claustrophobia, extreme psychological distress, and implied character death. This portal is not directed at children under the age of majority in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect any data from children, and we ask that minors do not use this site.
7. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
If you are in the EU/EEA/UK, you have the right to access, rectify, or erase any personal data we hold about you. Because we do not collect personal data in the first place, the practical answer to most of these requests is “there is nothing to delete”. If you are in California, you have similar rights under the CCPA. Contact us via the Contact page for any data-subject request.
8. Data Retention
The endings tracker and cookie consent data live in your browser’s localStorage. They are not sent to any server. They are deleted when you clear your browser’s site data, click Reset Progress, or click the cookie banner’s dismiss button (which writes a flag).
9. Changes To This Policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects the data we collect, the change will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be reflected in a banner on the home page for at least 30 days.
